Advantages & Disadvantages of Cloud Computing
Advantages:
- Increases capabilities without investing in new infrastructure, training new personnel, and licensing new software
- Easy to set up and get running
- Cheaper: no need to buy new software or update software
- Less labor intensive, installed online remotely
- Offers virtually unlimited storage compared to that of hard drives
Disadvantages:
- Security: the company's reputation is important, thus cloud computing highly prioritizes protection of clients' data effectively
- Different countries have different security measures, so some require the physical storage of data and information thus one must be careful of where to store their information in regards to legal security laws
- Privacy: authentication is used so user can access data only relevant to user's needs
- Affects overall industry: less need for IT repair/maintenance, thus changing the structure of IT industry
- Recovery: physically stored somewhere, if lost, retrieval depends on how cloud provider will respond
